Weekend Recap - A Day Later.

Michigan State went down to Oxford looking to end the curse Miami has held over the Spartans lately. The Spartans battled hard, but could only manage a point on the weekend with a 2-2 tie on Friday night (Miami won the shoot-out 2-0). Miami dominated the action on Saturday winning 2-0 and out-shooting the Spartans 36-13 for the game. Freshman Jake Hildebrand played well stopping 34 shots.

Lee Reimer missed the second half of the game after he was assessed a five minute major and a game disqualification for a hit-from-behind. Reimer will be out for Michigan State's next game which won't occur till November 30th when the Spartans host Big 10 rival Ohio State.

With the holiday weekend coming up a portion of the league, Michigan State included, is taking the weekend off. The best action looks to be in South Bend with North Dakota and Notre Dame. Northern Michigan is entering must win situation with Alaska coming to town, and Michigan's game on Wednesday against Bowling Green is looking like a must win for the Wolverines, if they want to compete for a league title.

CCHA Power Rankings

1. Notre Dame (8-2-0, LW: 3). The Irish climb back on top with the road sweep in Ann Arbor - no BCS computers needed here.

2. Miami (7-2-3, LW: 2). A win and a tie isn't a bad weekend, but right now the Irish look a step ahead.

3. Western Michigan (6-3-1, LW: 1). Losing at Alaska isn't unheard of, but that loss could come back to haunt the Broncos if they want to win the CCHA title.

4.  Alaska (6-4-2, LW: 4). A home split against Western looks good on paper. They need to show they can do it in the lower 48, and this weekend they will face a desperate Northern Michigan team.

5. Ferris State (6-4-2, LW: 5). The Bulldogs are hanging around.

6. Ohio State (4-3-3, LW: 10). Are the Buckeyes waking up? A tough road test against LSSU followed by another tough road test in East Lansing awaits the Buckeyes.

7. LSSU (6-6-0, LW: 6). A home split against UAH doesn't look good, but the Lakers focus returns to CCHA play this weekend.

8. Michigan State (4-6-2, LW: 7). The Spartans ended the losing streak to Miami last week, and now they have a couple weeks to prep for Ohio State.

9. Michigan (4-6-1, LW: 8). If things don't turn around, Michigan might be faced with a task like they had in 2010 - win the CCHA tournament or miss the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1990.

10. Northern Michigan (4-6-2, LW: 9). The Wildcats are in a must win situation this week if they want to keep themselves in a decent spot for a run at the top 5.

11. Bowling Green (2-8-3, LW: 11). The Falcons are close to winning some big games within the league, but the end results remain the same.

Big Ten Power Rankings

1. Minnesota (7-2-2, LW: 1). A win and tie against the Badgers has a lot of folks in Minneapolis smiling.

2. Ohio State (4-3-3, LW: 5). A sweep bumps the bucks up.

3. Penn State (6-3-0, LW: 4). A tough road series in Union coming up for PSU.

4. Michigan State (4-6-2, LW: 2). Spartans get a weekend to regroup.

5. Michigan (4-6-1, LW: 3). A ton of questions remain in Ann Arbor.

6. Wisconsin (1-5-2, LW: 6). Tough start in Madison - Wisconsin gets Minnesota State this weekend.

Note: With the holiday weekend coming up, and the off weekend for Michigan State, updates will likely be light this week. Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday!
