Michigan State got back on the winning track last night defeating #10 Ohio State 6-3. It wasn't easy though, as MSU spotted the Buckeyes a 3-1 lead after the opening period. Michigan State took control of the game in the second half of the second period, as MSU tallied 3 unanswered to get their first lead of the weekend at 4-3.
From there, Michigan State tallied 2 more unanswered goals in the final period to win the game by the 6-3 margin. Dean Chelios, A.J. Sturges, Torey Krug, Matt Crandell, Chris Fofar, and Matt Berry all tallied goals for the Spartans. Torey Krug added two assists for a three point night. Hayes had three assists on the night.
Will Yanakeff stood tall in net making 41 saves on the night. Ohio State out-shot MSU 44-34 for the game, but the margin was only 25-24 in the final two periods. State's PK got back on track going 6 for 6 on the night, and Torey Krug's goal was a power play marker, as State was 1 for 3 with the extra man.
Ohio State is now winless in their last 9 games (0-5-4). Michigan State is now 18th in the Pairwise.
The two teams will meet up again tonight to wrap up the series at 7:05 pm in Columbus.
